Abstract

Wind energy is a potential renewable energy in Indonesia and this renewable resource is increasing due to many factors such as mitigating climate change and reducing energy dependence on fossil fuels. In reality, wind is not always able to generate electricity stably as its speed changes significantly over time. This makes the electricity supply unstable. The use of battery storage in wind turbine systems is a solution to the intermittent nature of wind. In this study, using actual wind power generation data, the MPPT tracking method. With the use of batteries to the power generation system, electricity can be supplied stably to the grid to meet the power demand. This study aims to determine the battery capacity to be used in the wind power generation system to maintain stability in delivering power to the load. The method used in determining battery capacity by simulating lithium-ion battery technology connected to the Sidrap wind power generation system using MATLAB simulink software. In this study, simulations were carried out on one turbine unit with generated wind power generated at 1.105 MW and an output voltage of 664.9453 Volts. Tests were conducted on battery capacity with 10% of wind turbine power. Based on the simulation results of adding batteries to the Sidrap wind power generation system, the optimal battery capacity to maintain the stability of power distribution to the load is 1 MWh. With a battery voltage of 525.46 Volts and a state of charge (SOC) on the battery of 50%.
