Q1Abstract
Agrifood systems play a pivotal role in ensuring food security, fostering economic development, promoting environmental sustainability, reducing inequalities, enhancing resilience to climate change, improving public health, and advancing global sustainable development goals. Consequently, understanding strategies to enhance the performance of agrifood systems is imperative. However, current research exploring strategies for improving agrifood system performance remains limited. This study aims to systematically review and analyze strategies for enhancing agrifood system performance to foster sustainable food systems. The research adopts a systematic literature review guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. The primary data sources for this review include the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases, from which relevant articles were identified and analyzed. Through comprehensive content analysis, the strategies identified in this review are categorized into five main themes: (a) farm management, (b) governance and policy, (c) science and technology, (d) marketing, and (e) packaging. The study offers a practical framework for advancing the sustainability of agrifood systems. Key strategies highlighted include precision irrigation techniques to optimize water usage, agroecological practices tailored to local contexts, and eco-friendly packaging innovations to minimize environmental waste. This review contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable agrifood systems by providing actionable insights and frameworks that can inform policy-making, research, and practice.
