Abstract
The challenge of vocational education in West Sulawesi is how to harmonize the curriculum with the potential of local natural resources and local wisdom so that the skills possessed are relevant to the needs of those regions. This research sought to develop a new instrument for vocational education that could integrate local wisdom and natural resources. Focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, surveys, and SWOT analysis were used for qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques, and the research utilized a mixed-methods approach. The identification model's robustness and applicability were validated through data triangulation and extensive validation. The findings identified major foundations such as strong community support and the possibility of cultural preservation and economic development. Weaknesses included a lack of infrastructure and a requirement for specialized educator training. The SWOT analysis found opportunities in government support and sustainable practices, and threats in market competition and regulatory challenges. The model we developed balances the academic mandates with local participatory perspectives to make sure that the vocational curriculum is both scientifically sound and culturally contextually applicable. This will improve the relevance, and effectiveness of vocational education programs, and socio-economic development in the region of West Sulawesi. The results highlight the significance of community involvement in the educational process and offer a strong foundation that can be replicated in different areas to develop sustainable, culture-centric educational systems. Such integrations could be part of a broader set of efforts and the long-term of such integrations should be explored.
